Springing Forward ☀️
A new astrological year and an easier way of existing for your favorite newsletter.

I tend to get ahead of myself. I self-impose structures onto myself that don’t need to be there to achieve a nebulous, at times superfluous, goal that I’ve set my sights on. I’m ambitious. I can’t help that. (I’ve tried.) And there are moments when I fill my cup to the brim with responsibility, only to later realize that I don’t have any room in my belly for it.
You’re probably wondering what the hell I’m talking about. This is my poetic way of saying that I’m scaling back on Salt + Yams. The hyper-organization I imposed on this newsletter has begun to distract from the reason I started it: to say what I needed to say and how and when I wanted to say it. This place is supposed to be a hobby—not an avenue for my overambition—and I’m reclaiming it as such.
I’m transitioning this project to a much slower publishing pace, meaning you’ll hear from me when I have something meaningful to share with you. There will be no more set publishing dates. There will be no more structure. I’ve paused paid subscriptions indefinitely, and no more Almanacs or Fragments will be denoted as such. In the future, paying for the newsletter will be a way to show support for the labor I put into my love of writing and disseminating information. Don’t worry about topics—I’ll continue to write about Black health modalities, wellness culture, well-being, medicine, history, and things in this vein. The subject matter won’t be changing, just the pace.
Happy Equinox, bb.
